Frequently asked questions

Are Devon rex hypoallergenic?

Technically, there is no such thing as a 100 percent hypoallergenic domestic cat (or dog). If your allergy is not severe, can be ok, however from my experiance around 55% of people with allergies do have some reaction. The best thing to do is visit a home with a Devon rex. A cattery may be a bit of an overload, but if there is nowhere else available, then maybe visit one.

does loriendale cattery allow entire (undesexed) devons to go to their new homes?

I work with other breeders and have helped mentor new breeders so in that case, yes I am prepared to work with other experienced breeders nationally and internationally. I do not let pet cats/kittens leave without neutering or spaying.

My reasons are:

  • males are more aggressive, wonder further and will spray, even at an early age. the boys tend to kill more wildlife if entire. This becomes a problem for the owner and the cat will be responsible for the problem. Once there is a problem there is less LOVE.

  • females call when in season, and boy can they become very loud and non stop. Local toms that are entire will be on your property promptly and before you realise the girl will be in kitten of unplanned moggies. This becomes a problem for the owner and the cat will be responsible for the problem. Once there is a problem there is less LOVE.

There are no exceptions, pet cats and kittens leave altered.
